HYDERABAD: BR MLC K Kavitha has strongly condemned an incident in Nizamabad district where a woman was allegedly assaulted by Circle Inspector (CI) Vijay Babu after reporting a missing purse.
In a statement on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Kavitha questioned the government’s commitment to public welfare, asking, “Is this democracy?” She described the CI’s actions as inhumane, stating that instead of resolving the issue empathetically, the officer resorted to physical assault.
The incident occurred when Boya Bhagya, a resident of Dupally village in Renjal mandal, attended the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy festival in Janakampet with her son on Friday. After losing her purse, she reported the matter at the police outpost. Allegedly, CI Vijay Babu became enraged, questioning why she was making a fuss, and proceeded to beat her on the legs and waist with a baton.
Following the assault, Bhagya lodged a complaint against the officer at Edapally Police Station. Kavitha has demanded immediate and strict action against CI Vijay Babu and urged the Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure justice for the victim. She also called on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to appoint a full-time Commissioner of Police in Nizamabad to prevent similar incidents in the future.
