HYDERABAD: CPI MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao has criticized the Telangana government for its inadequate implementation of the farmer loan waiver scheme, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive loan waiver for all eligible farmers. Addressing the media at the Assembly premises on Friday, Rao highlighted the plight of farmers facing difficulties due to the partial execution of the loan waiver program.
Citing an example from Nidigonda village in Jangaon district, Rao pointed out that out of 554 farmers, only two received loan waivers, while the remaining were excluded due to Aadhaar-related issues. He urged the government to promptly rectify these discrepancies and extend the loan waiver benefits to all eligible farmers to alleviate their financial burdens.
In addition to the loan waiver concerns, Rao expressed strong opposition to the state government’s decision to sell 400 acres of land belonging to the University of Hyderabad (HCU). He proposed that, instead of selling university land, the government should regularize lands occupied by the poor by collecting appropriate fees, which would generate revenue and benefit the underprivileged. Furthermore, he suggested that lands acquired by land mafias should be reclaimed by the government and auctioned, rather than disposing of university land.
Rao’s statements underscore the need for equitable agricultural policies and the protection of public assets, reflecting his commitment to addressing farmers’ issues and safeguarding educational institutions’ properties.
