Medaram Jatara preparations reviewed; ₹150 crore allocated for works

Hyderabad: Tribal Welfare Department Special Chief Secretary Sabyasachi Ghosh reviewed the ongoing Medaram Jatara preparations at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The department sanctioned ₹150 crore for the festival, including ₹90 crore for civil works and ₹60 crore for non-civil works.

Ghosh reviews progress on arrangements

During the meeting, officials shared updates on both civil and non-civil works. Ghosh and Mulugu District Collector Divakar discussed coordination plans, timelines, and inter-departmental responsibilities to speed up progress.

He explained that the Jatara site has been divided into eight zones and 31 sectors for better management. Zone–3 covers the Jampanna Vagu area. Moreover, about 10,000 to 12,000 police personnel will handle security. Each zone will have a zonal officer to oversee on-ground operations.

In addition, authorities will install 24 permanent towers, 20 cell-on-wheels units, and 350 Wi-Fi points to boost connectivity. They also marked core routes and parking areas to improve public movement during the festival.

Parking and infrastructure development

Officials identified 49 parking sites covering 1,050 acres, which can accommodate around six lakh vehicles. Ghosh instructed departments to complete every project by November 30 to ensure readiness.

Meanwhile, the Forest Department is developing 33 roads, converting dirt tracks into double-lane routes. Some of these routes pass through the wildlife sanctuary. Similarly, the Roads and Buildings Department is laying approach roads near the temple for ₹42 crore and main roads for ₹92 crore.

Power, lighting, and water works

Repair teams are working rapidly to rebuild the temporary Jampanna Vagu road that collapsed earlier. Furthermore, departments are drilling 517 bore points and installing lighting along 250 kilometres of roads. With local cooperation, six slaughter centres have also been set up.

At the same time, the Irrigation Department is restoring Jampanna Vagu to improve water flow. The Electricity Department is erecting 9,111 poles and connecting 259 transformers to strengthen power supply. Likewise, the Endowments Department is installing decorative lights across the Jatara site to enhance illumination.

Coordination among departments

Ghosh urged all departments to work together efficiently to ensure the success of the world-famous Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara. He announced that teams would conduct special inspections before, during, and after the festival to monitor arrangements closely.

Additional DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh Bhagwat, Collectors of Mulugu, Warangal, and Hanamkonda, Mulugu SP, Electricity CMD Varun Reddy, and other senior officers attended the meeting and presented progress reports.
