Hyderabad: Hundi counting at the Medaram Jatara continued for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday, with officials recording collections of ₹10.71 crore so far. The amount came from 615 hundis, officials confirmed.
During the ongoing hundi counting, authorities recovered foreign currency from 18 countries. As per tradition, priests will receive 33 per cent of the total hundi income. Officials said the counting process was progressing smoothly with close monitoring at every stage.
During the previous Medaram Jatara, devotees donated around ₹13 crore through hundis. However, officials now expect the current hundi counting to generate nearly three times higher revenue than the earlier edition.

Officials said the counting exercise could take more than 10 days to conclude. They clarified that they would announce the final income figures only after completing the entire process.
Authorities installed 828 hundis across Medaram for the Jatara. These included 780 iron hundis, 45 cloth hundis, and three rice hundis, officials said.
The Medaram Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara, widely regarded as Asia’s largest tribal congregation, took place from January 28 to January 31. Devotees from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and several other States attended the biennial festival in large numbers.
