Cybercriminals use Instagram to lure educated job seekers into work from home scam in Medak
Hyderabad: A youth from Ramayampet in Medak district lost ₹2 lakh to cybercriminals who posed as employers offering work-from-home jobs through Instagram.
The fraudsters posted advertisements promising returns and job opportunities in exchange for small investments. Lured by the offer, the youth paid money in multiple instalments, believing he would earn income alongside employment.
Despite being educated, the victim fell for the scheme and transferred a total of ₹2 lakh before realising he had been cheated. After the fraud became apparent, he lodged a complaint with local police.
Cybercrime cases targeting unemployed youth through fake job offers have seen a sharp rise across the State. Officers noted that scammers often exploit financial desperation and trust to carry out such cons.
