Massive fire engulfs furniture shop in Nampally; children feared trapped

Hyderabad: A massive fire broke out at Batcha Furniture in Chiragali Lane, Nampally, on Saturday, triggering panic in the densely populated neighbourhood. The blaze started on the ground floor of a four-storey building and quickly spread to the upper floors.

Fire and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched intensive firefighting operations. Officials deployed at least 10 fire engines to contain the inferno. However, thick smoke and intense heat slowed rescue efforts for several hours.

According to preliminary information, six people, including two children and their mother, were feared trapped inside the building when the fire broke out. Firefighters continued search and rescue operations amid heavy smoke to locate and evacuate those inside. Meanwhile, towering flames rising from the shop caused alarm among residents in nearby lanes.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar reached the scene and monitored the situation. He instructed officials to take all necessary steps to control the blaze quickly and ensure the safety of those trapped.

Officials said the cause of the fire and details on injuries or casualties were yet to be confirmed. Authorities were assessing the damage as firefighting and rescue operations continued late into the evening.
