Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged the Centre to develop Mamnoor Airport in Warangal to international standards and begin operations at the earliest.
Revanth Reddy met Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu at his Parliament chamber and requested immediate commencement of works. He said land acquisition for Mamnoor Airport had already been completed.
The Chief Minister also sought development of cargo services and maintenance, overhaul and repair facilities at the airport. According to him, these additions would strengthen the aviation ecosystem in the region.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed the rapid growth of Warangal as an industrial hub. Revanth Reddy referred to the expansion of textile and other industries in the city. He also highlighted the Sammakka-Saralamma tribal fair held biennially near Warangal, describing it as the largest tribal congregation in Asia.
Mamnoor Airport to serve four districts
Revanth Reddy said Mamnoor Airport would act as a hub for Warangal, Khammam, Nalgonda and Karimnagar districts. Therefore, he urged the Union Minister to expedite works and ensure flight operations from Mamnoor at the earliest.
In addition, the Chief Minister requested immediate permissions for the proposed Adilabad Airport. He stated that the State government was ready to provide an additional 249.82 acres required for the project.
Responding to the proposals, Rammohan Naidu assured that officials from the Airports Authority of India would be sent to the site. He said necessary steps would be taken to commence Mamnoor Airport works.
Members of Parliament Dr Mallu Ravi, Suresh Shetkar, Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, Dr Kadiyam Kavya, Gaddam Vamsi Krishna and M Anil Kumar Yadav attended the meeting. Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister K S Srinivasa Raju, Chief Minister’s Secretary Manik Raj and Central Schemes Coordinator Dr Gaurav Uppal were also present.
