Hyderabad: Malkajgiri Police and the Special Operations Team arrested two men and seized 23 grams of MDMA near Malkajgiri Railway Station, police said. The Malkajgiri MDMA drug seizure also included two mobile phones, ₹5,600 in cash and a handbag. Police estimated the total value of the seized property at ₹2.76 lakh.
Police identified the arrested men as Mahaveer Singh, 28, a Rapido driver, and Lakshman Singh Rajpurohit, 45, a catering worker. Mahaveer Singh lived in Ranigunj, Secunderabad, and hailed from Jalore district in Rajasthan, according to police. Rajpurohit lived in Bowenpally, Secunderabad, and hailed from Rajasthan.
Police said the two men were friends. They alleged that Mahaveer Singh had entered drug trafficking to make money, while Rajpurohit was a consumer. Investigators alleged that Mahaveer Singh procured MDMA from Rajasthan and supplied it to Rajpurohit and other buyers in Hyderabad.
Malkajgiri MDMA drug seizure followed tip-off
Acting on information, police intercepted two suspects near a neem tree close to Malkajgiri Railway Station on the afternoon of September 21. Police said officers searched them in the presence of mediators and found MDMA concealed inside a handbag. The substance was packed in polythene covers.
The seized contraband weighed 23 grams and was identified as MDMA, police said. Malkajgiri Police registered Crime No. 707/2026 under Sections 8(c) read with 22(C) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
During the investigation, police alleged that Mahaveer Singh had been selling MDMA to customers for money. They identified a man named Kuldeep from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, as the alleged supplier. Police also identified another alleged consumer, Kailash, from Kokapet.
Both men remained absconding, according to the police statement. Police said efforts were underway to trace and apprehend Kuldeep and Kailash. Further investigation into the alleged drug supply network was continuing.
The SOT Malkajgiri Zone and Malkajgiri Police jointly conducted the operation. Police said they were continuing efforts to identify drug suppliers, peddlers and consumers and disrupt narcotics supply chains.
The commissionerate also said drug awareness campaigns remained part of its efforts against narcotics. Police appealed to the public to cooperate with investigators and share information about suspected drug-related activities.
The arrests were made under the supervision of Malkajgiri Commissioner of Police B. Sumathi, police said. SOT DCP K. Manohar and Malkajgiri Zone DCP Ch. Sridhar guided the operation. Additional SOT DCP Md. Shakir Hussain and personnel from the SOT and Malkajgiri Police were also involved.
