Hyderabad: A major fire broke out at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) office in Nampally on Saturday, triggering panic in the heart of the city. Flames suddenly erupted in the computer lab section and quickly spread to other departments.
Dense smoke filled the premises as the office stored chemicals and crucial forensic records. Alert staff immediately rushed out and informed the fire department. Firefighters reached the spot promptly and launched firefighting operations using two fire engines. Teams also began search operations to check whether anyone remained trapped inside.
Senior police officials said fire personnel continued efforts to control the fire. Meanwhile, Shilpavalli, Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Khairatabad zone, arrived at the scene and reviewed the situation.
Officials fear damage to crucial forensic records after fire
Officials expressed serious concern as the FSL office stores key evidence, chemical samples, and records linked to criminal investigations. Authorities are still assessing the extent of damage caused by the fire. However, officials said it was too early to estimate losses.
Preliminary inquiries indicated that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. Police registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause. Firefighting operations continued as officials worked to secure the premises and prevent further spread.
