Mahesh Kumar Goud welcomes Assembly approval of 42 percent BC reservations

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud welcomed the Assembly’s unanimous approval of the bill providing 42 percent reservations for backward classes (BCs) in local bodies.

He said the government’s action, which removed the 50 percent ceiling on quotas, was a prestigious step that deserved full support from society.

Goud said the government had considered technical, legal, and political aspects before approving the measure. He noted that the decision to give 42 percent reservations would ensure BC representation in upcoming local body elections.

He thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, the ministerial subcommittee, and opposition leaders for supporting the legislation. Goud added that the approval aligned with the vision of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had long sought political opportunities for BCs based on their share in society.

He further said that under the leadership of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, steps taken in Telangana would pave the way for implementing BC reservations nationwide. Congress, he added, would work to extend the measure across the country.
