Madiga MLAs step up push for cabinet berth in Telangana government

Hyderabad: The push for cabinet representation by Madiga community MLAs within the Telangana Congress has gained momentum ahead of the much-anticipated cabinet expansion.

On Thursday, four MLAs Adluri Laxman, Amdeli Samel, Kale Yadaya, and Kavampalli Satyanarayana met with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary KC Venugopal in New Delhi, pressing for a ministerial berth for their community.

These legislators have been consistently raising the issue with the TPCC, the Chief Minister, and Telangana’s party in-charge over the past month, underscoring the community’s need for representation at the highest levels of the state government.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the MLAs said the party leadership had responded positively to their plea. “This is not just about us as individual MLAs; it’s about fair representation for the entire Madiga community,” said Adluri Laxman. “We are confident that 200 percent justice will be done.”

He added that they had also written to senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, seeking his intervention to ensure their community’s inclusion. “We plan to meet him personally once we get an appointment,” Laxman said.

Highlighting the community’s longstanding lack of political representation despite its significant population, the MLAs emphasised that their demand was not aimed at sidelining any other groups. “We are not opposed to anyone,” they stressed.

They also made it clear that they were not dictating who should get the ministerial berth, as long as a genuine Madiga voice found a place in the cabinet. “Some leaders might cite our community’s name in discussions, but the reality is that no Madiga has held a cabinet position in Telangana so far. We are simply seeking our rightful representation,” they said.
