Liquor shops to remain shut for four days in Jubilee Hills bypoll

Hyderabad: All liquor outlets in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency will shut down for four days ahead of the November 11 bypoll. The order, issued by the Excise Department, covers wine shops, bars, toddy shops, clubs, and any venue serving alcohol.

The ban will apply in two phases. Liquor sales must stop from 6 pm on November 9 to 6 pm on November 11. The second phase begins at 6 am on November 14 and ends at 6 am on November 15. Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar confirmed these timings and warned that violations would not be tolerated.

Police teams are also monitoring reports of drug peddlers trying to stock up before the shutdown. Meanwhile, political parties are pushing their final round of campaigning.

Jubilee Hills bypoll: Police ban campaigning, warn against hate speech and betting

Hyderabad police have banned all public campaigning in the Jubilee Hills constituency during the final 48 hours before polling ends on November 11. However, candidates may still conduct door-to-door visits with groups of fewer than five people.

Authorities have also prohibited the use of loudspeakers, music systems, and public address equipment. The ban includes speeches, songs, or any content broadcast through speakers.

Police warned against any act or display verbal, visual, or symbolic that could provoke religious tension or disturb public order. They emphasized that anyone attempting to violate these norms would face legal action.

Officials are also tracking betting networks that are speculating on the poll outcome. Some political analysts view this bypoll as a test of the Congress government’s two-year performance. The result may also affect the future position of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
