Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju reviewed Legislative Council expansion plans on Tuesday, including proposed residential quarters, administrative buildings, parking facilities and beautification works. He directed officials to protect the historic structure and surrounding greenery while carrying out the development.
Jaju visited the State Legislative Council premises along with Hyderabad District Collector Dr. Priyanka Ala. During the field inspection, officials briefed him on the proposed infrastructure projects and the requirements for expanding the legislative complex.
The review covered a comprehensive master plan aimed at improving facilities for legislative officials, administrative operations and other activities within the premises. Officials presented proposals to construct residential quarters for the Assembly Speaker, Legislative Council Chairman, Vice Chairman and Deputy Speaker.
The proposed housing facilities would also accommodate the Secretaries of both Houses of the State Legislature. Additionally, the master plan included an annex building, administrative blocks and dedicated offices for legislative parties.
The proposals also covered sports and recreational facilities, along with improved parking arrangements within the legislative complex. During the inspection, officials explained the infrastructure requirements and the proposed use of available space for these facilities.
Land transfer proposals reviewed for expansion
As part of the Legislative Council expansion plans, the Chief Secretary examined proposals to transfer adjoining government land. The identified plots currently fall under the Tourism Department and the State Police Headquarters, also known as the DGP Office.
Officials discussed the proposed acquisition of these adjacent properties to facilitate the expansion of the legislative premises. The review also examined how the additional land could support the proposed buildings and other facilities under the master plan.
Chief Secretary stresses heritage and environmental protection
Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju emphasised the need to maintain environmental sustainability throughout the proposed development. He said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had directed officials to prioritise eco-friendly practices while preparing and executing the projects.
Accordingly, Jaju instructed officials to ensure that construction and beautification works caused minimal environmental damage. He also directed them to preserve the heritage and architectural character of the historic Legislative Council building.
Furthermore, the Chief Secretary stressed the importance of protecting the existing greenery and maintaining the aesthetics of the premises. The instructions formed part of the government’s review of the proposed development, expansion and beautification works at the Legislative Council complex.
