Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police are planning a new one-way system around Lakdikapul to ease traffic in the busy area. Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, IPS, toured the area on a bike on Friday to study ground conditions and the feasibility of the plan. Traffic Joint Commissioner D. Joel Davis, IPS, and DCP-1 Avinash Kumar, IPS, joined him.
Sajjanar closely examined road conditions and traffic congestion at Dwaraka Hotel, Old Saifabad police station, HDFC, Iqbal Minar, Ravindra Bharathi, Lakdikapul Chowrasta and Old Control Room Junction. He made several key suggestions to prevent accidents and let vehicles move without stopping.
Under the proposed plan, police will divert vehicles heading from Old Control Room via Ravindra Bharathi towards Iqbal Minar to reach Secunderabad. They will not allow these vehicles to go directly from Ravindra Bharathi. Instead, the vehicles will travel via HDFC, Old Saifabad police station, Iqbal Minar and Secretariat Junction.
Vehicles travelling from Nirankari Junction to Old Control Room will not go straight towards HDFC Junction.
Police will divert them at Old Saifabad police station. They will take a right turn at Iqbal Minar and reach Old Control Room via Ravindra Bharathi.
Vehicles from Secretariat Junction and Telangana Thalli flyover heading to Old Saifabad police station will also take a different route. They will go from Iqbal Minar towards Ravindra Bharathi and take a U-turn at Old Control Room. They will then travel via Assembly Gate No. 3, Ravindra Bharathi and HDFC to reach Old Saifabad police station. Officials have finalised these routes.
Sajjanar said police will soon hold a coordination meeting with GHMC, the Water Board, the Electricity Department and other departments. They will take a final decision at that meeting. Police will first run the system on a trial basis so that people face no difficulty. They will decide on permanent implementation only afterwards.
He said police are also considering one-way systems in other congested areas of the Hyderabad Commissionerate, as needed. They are consulting experts continuously to regulate traffic scientifically. He said police will take all measures to keep vehicles moving smoothly, and he appealed to motorists to cooperate for better traffic management and safe travel.
Sajjanar rides KBR Park one-way route on bike
After the Lakdikapul inspection, Sajjanar visited the KBR Park route, where a one-way system already operates. He rode the entire one-way stretch on his bike to study ground conditions and the current traffic management. He wants smoother vehicle movement and a lasting solution to traffic problems there.
Sajjanar said police are taking steps to let vehicles move without stopping on the KBR Park route. To handle rising congestion, they have decided to open one more traffic lane alongside the existing one-way route. The departments concerned will shift underground pipelines, electric poles and other utilities that block the extra lane on a war footing. He said the traffic department, GHMC and construction agencies are working together to ease travel around KBR Park.
