Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday called for a state-wide student agitation, accusing the Congress government of damaging Telangana’s education system. He said the ruling party had failed to fulfil its promises on fee reimbursement and BC reservations.
While addressing student wing leaders at his residence, KTR alleged that the Congress regime has undone the progress achieved under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. According to him, this progress stemmed from the expansion of Gurukul institutions and residential colleges. Furthermore, he criticised the Congress for spreading “Goebbels-style propaganda” to undermine a decade of educational reforms.
KTR presses for fee reimbursement and better Gurukul conditions
KTR announced that the BRS will intensify protests from next month. Therefore, he urged student leaders to mobilise in all Assembly constituencies. The core demand, he emphasised, is the immediate release of pending fee reimbursement funds. In addition, he highlighted the poor conditions in Gurukul institutions, citing low food standards and recent student suicides as critical concerns. As a result, he called for targeted agitation to draw attention to these issues.
Moreover, KTR encouraged students to actively use social media to expose what he described as the Congress government’s “betrayal” on education, employment, and reservation policies. He also reminded the ruling party of its commitment to provide 42% BC reservation in education and jobs — a pledge he claimed remains unfulfilled.
Students urged to mark Deeksha Diwas on November 29
Looking ahead, KTR urged all universities and colleges to observe November 29 as “Deeksha Diwas.” The date marks the anniversary of KCR’s hunger strike, which intensified the Telangana statehood movement. Accordingly, he asked educational institutions to commemorate student martyrs and raise awareness among young citizens.
“Real leaders are born from movements,” he stated. In conclusion, he called on students to resist what he described as the Congress party’s anarchy and to fight for the future of Telangana.
