KTR slams Congress over Speaker’s ruling on defection MLAs

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday lashed out at the Congress over the Speaker’s clean chit to defected MLAs. In this press meet, KTR slams Congress for what he called a betrayal of democratic principles. He accused the ruling party of making a mockery of the Constitution and undermining democratic values for political gain.

In a strongly worded post, KTR said Congress had “punctured” the Constitution step by step by shielding legislators who had switched parties. Moreover, he alleged that Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, who was expected to disqualify MLAs Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Kale Yadaiah, had acted under political pressure.

KTR slams Congress for backing defected MLAs

KTR stated that despite visible evidence of defection, the Speaker’s verdict denied justice and insulted the sanctity of the legislature. He accused Congress of disregarding not only constitutional principles but also showing contempt towards the judiciary.

He also claimed the Congress was afraid to face bypolls in the defected MLAs’ constituencies. This was especially true after its poor showing in recent panchayat elections. The Speaker’s ruling, he said, was proof of the party’s fear and moral failure.

Calling the defected MLAs “former representatives in the court of the people,” KTR warned that BRS would continue its fight. He said the fight would go on until the Chief Minister, who “draped Congress scarves around turncoats,” is held accountable.
