HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has voiced strong opposition against the alleged privatization of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a significant coal mining entity in Telangana. In a recent social media post, KTR accused both the central NDA government and the state Congress administration of conspiring to privatize this vital public sector undertaking.
KTR highlighted that two coal blocks have already been privatized, and now, higher-level positions within SCCL are being handed over to private entities. He described this as a warning sign of an impending threat to the company’s integrity. He emphasized the need to strengthen, rather than weaken, a century-old public sector institution like SCCL, which has been instrumental in meeting the nation’s energy demands.
Expressing concern over these developments, KTR stated that such moves undermine workers’ rights and serve as a death knell to their interests. He questioned whether privatization is the reward for SCCL’s significant contributions to the country’s electricity needs. He further asserted that BRS would initiate a robust campaign to protect SCCL, rallying the collective strength of workers to challenge both central and state government actions.
