Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday accused the Congress government of stalling development in Palamuru and pushing the region back into a migration crisis. He said delays in key irrigation and infrastructure projects had reversed years of progress made under the BRS regime.
Addressing newly elected sarpanches in Nagar Kurnool, KTR criticised the Revanth Reddy-led government for halting work on the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project. “Under KCR’s leadership, Palamuru turned green,” he said. “Now, without moving even a handful of soil, Revanth Reddy is undoing all that progress.”
Irrigation delays, fertiliser shortage spark unrest
Despite completing two years in office, the Congress government had not finished even 10% of the projects launched earlier, KTR alleged. He claimed that the previous BRS administration had completed nearly 90% of the Palamuru–Rangareddy project before Congress cancelled tenders, weakening Telangana’s water security.
KTR warned that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao would soon launch a renewed struggle to protect Telangana’s irrigation interests. He urged the people of Palamuru to support the upcoming movement, accusing the Congress of compromising on water allocations and pushing farmers into distress.
He also slammed the state’s agricultural policy. According to KTR, the Congress replaced the “Rythu Bandhu” model with a “Ra-Bandhu” (vulture) approach. Farmers were now queuing for urea in harsh winter conditions, he said, a scenario unheard of during the BRS rule.

Land policy and corruption allegations
KTR further criticised the Congress for what he called a land grab in Hyderabad. He alleged that the government was targeting 9,300 acres and undermining industrial land norms through the proposed HILT policy. This policy, he claimed, allowed private construction on subsidised industrial plots—opening the door for large-scale corruption.
He noted that BRS-era policies had propelled Hyderabad’s land values to ₹150 crore per acre. That growth, he said, was now at risk due to Congress’s flawed governance.
Concluding his remarks, KTR declared that wherever Congress held power, development stalled. He expressed confidence that the people of Telangana would reject the current government and bring BRS back to power after the present term ends.
