Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged the Centre to fully fund the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line and immediately initiate work on the project.
During a meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at his Parliament chamber, Revanth Reddy requested that the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line be executed entirely with central funds. He reminded the minister that the State government had already agreed to bear the full cost of land acquisition for the project.
The Chief Minister informed Vaishnaw that limestone deposits had been identified at Tekalkode along the proposed route. He said the government was working to develop the area as a hub for cement and textile manufacturing industries.
Moreover, he outlined plans to develop Kodangal, Tekalkode and Daulatabad as industrial zones. Revanth Reddy represents Kodangal in the Assembly. He noted that the Krishna region’s proximity to cement industries in Karnataka offered strategic advantages.
Krishna-Vikarabad railway line and industrial plans
Revanth Reddy said the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line would support industrial growth in the region. According to him, improved rail connectivity would facilitate raw material transport and finished goods movement.
In addition, the Chief Minister proposed allocating 500 acres near Shamshabad Airport for three high-speed rail corridors. These include the Hyderabad-Chennai corridor spanning 778 km, Hyderabad-Bengaluru covering 586 km and Hyderabad-Pune extending 556 km.
He suggested that all high-speed routes should originate from Shamshabad, where the international airport is located. He also proposed that the Hyderabad-Chennai corridor pass through Amaravati. From there, he sought sanction of a rail link to Bandar Port.
According to the Chief Minister, such connectivity would accelerate cargo movement from the dry port to Bandar Port. Furthermore, he said Shamshabad would emerge as a tri-junction if the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Pune corridors converge near the airport.
Revanth Reddy urged the Railway Ministry to immediately commence land acquisition for the three corridors and begin construction. In response, Vaishnaw assured that the proposals would be examined and work would be initiated.
