Hyderabad: Kacheguda Railway Station, one of the city’s busiest rail hubs, is set to get a luminous makeover this week. Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, will inaugurate the newly installed façade lighting at the station on June 9, marking a fresh chapter for this heritage landmark.
The ceremony, to be held at the station itself, will also see the participation of South Central Railway’s General Manager Arun Kumar Jain and other senior railway officials.
Kacheguda station has long been a lifeline for Hyderabad’s rail users, handling an average of 103 trains daily and welcoming nearly 45,000 passengers every day. With its five platforms and modern amenities, the station has served the city for over a century, carrying forward a legacy of reliable service.
The new lighting system, costing Rs 2.23 crore, has been funded by the Ministry of Tourism and executed by the Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway. It aims to showcase the station’s striking Indo-Saracenic and Indo-Gothic architecture by illuminating its intricate features.
With an eye on boosting tourism and enhancing the passenger experience, the lighting brings a vibrant glow to the station’s facade, designed to reflect various local, national, and international celebrations. Passengers and tourists alike can now enjoy a visually stunning ambience after sunset.
Officials say the system uses state-of-the-art Outdoor Type RGB LED lights, equipped with IP66 rating and built-in DMX decoders to manage dynamic lighting patterns. These modern fixtures promise eco-friendly illumination, avoiding any light pollution while highlighting the station’s historic charm.
For safety, all lighting and electrical accessories have been installed with secure mounting arrangements, ensuring they remain out of public reach. To guard against high voltage surges, multiple surge protection devices and dedicated copper plate earthing have been provided throughout the installation.
The lighting project is set to turn Kacheguda station into not just a transport hub but also a vibrant showcase of Hyderabad’s cultural and architectural pride.
