Hyderabad: A 48-year-old priest from Khammam district was declared brain dead after a tree fell on his auto-rickshaw, leading to the donation of his organs to four patients.
Bhuvanagiri Laxmi Narayana, a resident of Madhapuram in Mudigonda mandal, sustained critical injuries on June 16 while travelling near Kattakoor. A tree collapsed onto the vehicle around 4:30 PM. He was first taken to a local hospital in Khammam and later shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad for further care. Doctors declared him brain dead at 4:55 PM on June 21.
Following this, his sister, B. Durga Vani, consented to donate his kidneys, liver, and heart. The organs were allocated to four separate patients, according to a statement from Jeevandan Telangana.
The donated organs included two kidneys, one liver, and one heart.
Jeevandan officials expressed appreciation to the family for their decision, which they said had directly saved multiple lives. The organ donation programme reiterated its commitment to awareness and facilitation of transplants across Telangana.
TGSRTC Managing Director V.C. Sajjanar praised the family’s decision, saying their act of donating organs despite immense grief had given life to four others and reflected a deeply generous spirit.
