Hyderabad: BRS chief and former Telangana CM K. Chandrashekar Rao convened a strategy session with senior party leaders Tuesday night at his farmhouse in Erravelli to finalise a statewide agitation plan targeting the Congress government’s policies on irrigation, BC reservations, and the ongoing urea crisis.
Party insiders said KCR accused the Congress of betraying farmers who had trusted the BRS. He said the government failed to supply urea during peak paddy cultivation, calling it “unforgivable negligence.” The BRS will launch statewide protests over the crisis.
The meeting, attended by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and former ministers T. Harish Rao and G. Jagadish Reddy, also discussed the Andhra Pradesh government’s expansion of the Banakacherla project. KCR called the project a direct threat to Telangana’s irrigation system and vowed to block it at any cost.
He accused the Revanth Reddy government of protecting Andhra’s interests and aiding the TDP-led regime, claiming CM Revanth and PM Modi were jointly safeguarding Chandrababu Naidu’s water policies at the expense of Telangana’s farmers.
KCR directed leaders to expose the state’s failure to operationalise the Kaleshwaram project and lift Godavari water via the Kannepalli pump house, even during the monsoon. He demanded the immediate reactivation of pumps and reservoir refills.
He instructed party units to organise local movements against the Banakacherla project and warned that the BRS would not hesitate to make sacrifices for farmers’ rights. The party will also strengthen its student and affiliated wings to escalate grassroots mobilisations.
KCR said both BJP and Congress were distracting the public through mutual blame games and must be held accountable. He urged BRS cadre to take the message to every village that only BRS has consistently stood by Telangana’s farmers.
