Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) slammed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for serving him a notice in what he called a clear violation of legal and constitutional norms.
In a detailed response, KCR said he had already informed authorities that he resides in Erravelli. Despite this, SIT officials pasted a notice on the gate of his Nandinagar residence. He called this act a breach of his constitutional rights and a disregard for due legal process.
KCR calls SIT notice illegal, cites SC guidelines
KCR pointed to Section 160 of the CrPC, which requires that individuals above 65 be questioned at their residence. “I am over 70 years old and have lived in Erravelli for several years,” he said. He also referred to the Supreme Court’s ruling in Satender Kumar Antil vs CBI, which states that notices must be served in person not via WhatsApp or by pasting them at random locations.
He asserted that SIT has no legal jurisdiction over him, as he does not live within their police station limits. Therefore, the notice carries no legal weight and amounts to contempt of court, he claimed.
KCR also pointed out inconsistencies in SIT protocol. For example, SIT served Minister Harish Rao at Hyderabad even though his official address is in Siddipet. “This shows a double standard in enforcement,” he said.
Rejecting the second notice, KCR described the SIT’s actions as politically motivated and unlawful. He warned that ignoring constitutional safeguards and Supreme Court rulings sets a dangerous precedent.
