Hyderabad: AICC general secretary KC Venugopal on Friday held a detailed review of Telangana Congress affairs in a key meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan. Venugopal, who arrived in Hyderabad along with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, discussed party matters and the political climate for several hours with senior leaders.
With local body elections approaching, the party’s decision to offer 42 per cent reservations for backward classes also came up for discussion. Sources said the leaders deliberated on potential candidates for the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll, which fell vacant following the death of sitting BRS MLA M. Gopinath. Several Congress leaders have already staked claim for the ticket, though the Election Commission has yet to issue a schedule.
Venugopal is understood to have sought explanations over reports of infighting among party ministers, MLAs, and other leaders. He expressed displeasure and made it clear that there should be no resentment within the party, warning that silence over internal issues could send wrong signals.
Congress insiders said Venugopal suggested issuing show-cause notices to leaders creating discord over minor disputes. He also took feedback on dissatisfaction among a few MLAs who were left out of the state cabinet, clarifying that decisions on cabinet expansion rested solely with Rahul Gandhi and he would not comment further on that matter.
