Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K Kavitha on Monday released a poster for the rail roko agitation planned on July 17, demanding 42 percent reservations for Backward Classes in education, employment, and local bodies.
The protest is being organised jointly by Telangana Jagruthi and the United Phule Front (UPF) to push both the State and Central governments to act on this long-standing demand.
Kavitha noted that although two separate bills had been passed in the State Assembly and Council, the Congress government had neither secured their legal recognition nor sent an all-party delegation to Delhi to pursue the matter.
She warned the Congress government not to proceed with local body elections without ensuring BC reservations were in place.
Calling the issue above party lines, Kavitha described it as a matter of legal and constitutional rights for Backward Classes.
She appealed to the public to avoid travel on July 16, 17, and 18 in view of the protest, and said several political parties and organisations had already declared their support.
