Kavitha says Telangana Jagruti will contest municipal elections

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti president and former MP K Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Tuesday said Jagruti leaders would contest the upcoming municipal elections, thereby marking the party’s first major urban electoral entry.

Ahead of the polls, Kavitha met aspirants at her Hyderabad residence. During the meeting, she discussed election strategy, candidate selection and organisational planning. Moreover, party leaders said she aimed to finalise candidates even before the official election notification.

According to sources, Jagruti plans to field candidates in 20 to 30 municipal seats in Nizamabad district. At the same time, party circles indicated that candidates may contest on the ‘lion’ symbol. As a result, Jagruti workers have begun widely sharing the symbol on social media.

Through early announcements, Kavitha intends to give candidates more time for local groundwork. Consequently, party leaders said the move has energised cadres ahead of the elections.

Kavitha’s Nizamabad push draws political attention

Meanwhile, the municipal elections gained significance as Kavitha prepared to enter the electoral fray on her home turf for the first time. In particular, Nizamabad has emerged as the party’s main focus area.

Earlier, Kavitha served as Nizamabad MP while working with the BRS. Now, however, her return to the district with her own party has altered local political equations.

Looking ahead, the elections are expected to witness a multi-cornered contest. While the ruling Congress remains strong, the BJP also has a firm base in Nizamabad, along with the BRS. Therefore, how Kavitha positions Jagruti against these parties has become a key political talking point.
