Kavitha slams neglect of SRSP canals, demands completion of Tungaturthi hospital

Hyderabad: Jagruthi founder-president Kalvakuntla Kavitha blamed government negligence for the poor condition of SRSP Stage Two canals and pending public works in Tungaturthi constituency.

She toured the constituency on Saturday as part of the Jagruthi Jana Baata programme. During the visit, she inspected SRSP second-phase canals, Rudrama Cheruvu, and the half-constructed 100-bed hospital building.

Calls out lack of irrigation funds and hospital delays

Kavitha said the failure to build distributary canals and maintain existing ones blocked Godavari water from reaching Rudrama Cheruvu. She criticised both the BRS and Congress governments for not allocating funds for canal upkeep. “Even basic maintenance didn’t get a single rupee,” she stated.

She noted that the BRS promised twice to develop Rudrama Cheruvu into a reservoir but failed to act. The Congress government also ignored its promise to convert the tank into a tourist destination like Laknavaram.

Kavitha urged the government to build reservoirs in Nalgonda under SRSP Stage Two. She said such projects would directly benefit farmers in the region.

She also demanded completion of the hospital upgrade in Tungaturthi. The 30-bed hospital, set up 40 years ago, was cleared for expansion in 2018. Despite two foundation ceremonies, construction hasn’t finished. “People across six mandals lack access to quality medical care. They are forced to depend on private hospitals,” she said.

Earlier in the day, Kavitha visited Kothagudem village and offered floral tributes at the statue of revolutionary Maroju Veeranna. She recalled the district’s role in the armed struggle and noted contributions from local figures like lyricist Bandi Yadagiri.

District president Surarapu Krishnaveni, state leader Ismail, and other local leaders joined her during the tour.
