Kavitha slams Revanth Reddy over Banakacherla talks, demands CM’s resignation

Hyderabad: BRS MLC K. Kavitha launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Thursday, accusing him of compromising Telangana’s water rights by participating in Banakacherla-related talks with Andhra Pradesh during the Jal Shakti Ministry’s meeting in Delhi.

Addressing reporters from her residence in Banjara Hills, Kavitha questioned whether the Chief Minister had any shame or courage, alleging that he initially postured against the meeting but later sneaked off to Delhi for closed-door discussions.

She claimed CM Revanth and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy exchanged pleasantries with Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu during the meeting, reducing it to a celebration rather than a negotiation.

Despite Banakacherla being the first item on the official agenda, Kavitha said Telangana’s representatives not only attended but “gifted” Krishna and Godavari waters to Andhra Pradesh.

She warned that if the Godavari–Banakacherla link project proceeds, Telangana will permanently lose its legal claims over Godavari waters.

Citing a press note from the Press Information Bureau that confirmed the topic was discussed, she accused CM Revanth of misleading the public by denying it.

She demanded the CM’s immediate resignation, stating he had failed to protect state interests and accusing him of prioritising stakes in Megha Engineering’s ₹85,000 crore project over Telangana’s water security.

Kavitha also dismissed the government’s so-called achievements in the Jal Shakti meeting as old decisions already mandated under the AP Reorganisation Act, including telemetry installations and board locations.

She warned that if the Banakacherla project is not halted immediately, her organisation Telangana Jagruthi would take up the issue through legal channels.

Kavitha called on the CM to lead an all-party delegation to the upcoming Parliament session and settle both the Banakacherla and BC reservations issues decisively.
