Kavitha slams BJP over BC quota Bill, urges Rahul Gandhi to act

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi founder and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Monday criticised the BJP for dismissing the feasibility of including the 42% BC reservation Bill in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

Reacting to comments made by BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao, who said the Bill lacked proper judicial vetting and thus couldn’t be added to the Ninth Schedule, Kavitha called the statement “unfortunate.” She accused the BJP of taking a politically convenient stance, noting that the party had supported exceeding the 50% reservation ceiling in several northern states.

The Telangana Assembly passed the BC quota Bill covering education, employment, and public life a few months ago. It is currently awaiting presidential assent.

Kavitha criticised the BJP’s eight Lok Sabha MPs from Telangana for delivering “zero benefit” to the State and challenged the party to support the Bill in Delhi.

She also called on Congress Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to act on his own rhetoric about caste census and BC welfare by pressing for the Bill’s passage in Parliament. “If not, both BJP and Congress will be seen as cheating BCs of Telangana,” she warned.
