Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Monday criticised the absence of a single 100-bed government hospital in Malkajgiri district, despite its population exceeding 32 lakh. Kavitha flags this hospital gap as a significant issue for the district.
Speaking to the media, Kavitha pointed out that Hyderabad’s neighbouring district lacks basic public healthcare infrastructure. “With no major government hospital, private medical colleges and hospitals are controlling the healthcare system,” she said.
According to her, the district has just seven primary health centres and a few sub-centres, but not one 100-bed hospital.
Gandhi Hospital overcrowded with referrals from Medchal region
She said the absence of secondary care facilities has forced patients to rely heavily on Gandhi Hospital. “For even basic surgeries, patients are being referred to Gandhi Hospital from areas like Jawahar Nagar and KPHB,” she said.
Kavitha added that residents in places like Keesara face similar conditions. Pregnant women are travelling one to two hours for treatment, putting their lives at risk, she warned.
She said Medchal district has a dense population across all constituencies but continues to lack public hospitals. She urged the state government to construct at least one hospital in each assembly constituency.
