Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti President Kalvakuntla Kavitha urges focus on improving girls’ literacy as she released a video message on the 195th birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule. She released the message while travelling to Suryapet district to take part in the Jagruti Janambata programme.
In the message, Kavitha recalled that Savitribai Phule started a separate school for girls at the age of 17. She said Savitribai Phule, with the support of her husband Jyotirao Phule, not only pursued education herself but also fought relentlessly for girls’ education.

Kavitha said Savitribai faced repeated humiliation but continued her struggle with unwavering resolve. She noted that millions of girls studying in the country today reflected the outcome of Savitribai Phule’s sacrifices.
Further, Kavitha said special attention was needed in areas where girls’ literacy remained low. As part of the Janambata programme, she said Jagruti identified Gadwal and Nagarkurnool as regions with low female literacy.
She said she had resolved to work towards improving women’s literacy in those areas.
