Kavitha backs VOA dharna, demands salary hike and respect for women workers

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Thursday extended full support to Village Organization Assistants (VOAs) protesting at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad, demanding a hike in their monthly salary.

Speaking at the dharna near Indira Park, Kavitha criticised the Congress government for failing to honour its election promise of increasing VOAs’ salaries from ₹8,000 to ₹26,000. She directly accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of neglecting Telangana’s women while prioritising Delhi politics.

Kavitha calls for salary hike and recognition

Kavitha said VOAs play a vital role in the self-help group ecosystem. “You helped deliver ₹20,000 crore in loans to over 64 lakh self-help group members. You deserve more than ₹8,000,” she said. She urged the protesting women not to fear the government and to continue demanding their rights boldly.

She also called for VOAs to be given proper uniforms. “Recognition brings respect. VOAs deserve both fair wages and dignity,” she added.

Vows continued support for women’s rights

Kavitha accused the Congress of cheating women in Telangana. “They betrayed not only VOA girls but every woman who voted for them,” she said. She pledged to continue standing by the VOAs and even face lathi charges, if needed, in support of their demands.

“The fight is for self-respect, not just salary,” she concluded.
