Kavitha backs nationwide strike, slams Centre’s labour codes as anti-worker

Hyderabad: BRS MLC K. Kavitha on Wednesday extended full support to the nationwide strike called by trade unions, accusing the Centre of dismantling the hard-won eight-hour workday through its new labour codes.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kavitha condemned the Centre’s “undemocratic” labour reforms and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the new codes. “We must resist any attempt to roll back the eight-hour workday won by workers through struggle,” she wrote.

The labour codes, pushed by the Union government, have drawn widespread criticism from worker organisations who argue they dilute rights, lengthen work hours, and undermine job security. Kavitha said the reforms trample on both organised and unorganised workers’ protections.

The strike saw participation from several trade unions nationwide, calling for a halt to the labour codes and restoration of worker safeguards.
