Kavitha backs Bharat Bandh, slams BJP’s anti-labour stance

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti president and BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha extended support to the Bharat Bandh called by ten Central trade unions, urging the BJP-led Union government to withdraw all anti-labour reforms and stop amending labour laws.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Kavitha said the Centre’s policies since 2014 had systematically eroded workers’ rights. She accused the Narendra Modi government of pushing pro-corporate reforms at the cost of worker protections and social security. She claimed that repeated amendments to labour laws were facilitating backdoor employment systems and undermining established safeguards.

Kavitha specifically cited industrial accidents, including a recent one in Hyderabad, as evidence of deteriorating safety standards under the current regulatory regime. She alleged that the BJP had left workers vulnerable and unprotected, while prioritising the interests of capitalists.

Reaffirming the BRS party’s support for Bharat Bandh, Kavitha stated that workers across India were increasingly being denied fair treatment and secure employment. She called on the Centre to immediately halt all amendments to labour legislation.

Meanwhile, support for the Telangana Jagruti-led rail roko protest on July 17 demanding 42% BC reservations in local body elections continues to build. On Wednesday, leaders of the National Yadav Hakkula Porata Samiti and Somavanshi Arya Kshatriya Samaj Unnati Mandal Sangam met Kavitha and pledged participation.

National Yadav Sangam president Mekala Ramulu Yadav and Arya Kshatriya Sangam head Chandrakant Chavan presented a letter of support and confirmed their groups would mobilise en masse for the protest. They committed to backing all future agitations led by Kavitha under the BC rights campaign banner.
