Hyderabad: In a public enforcement move against noise pollution, Karimnagar police destroyed 243 modified vehicle silencers that had been seized from violators. The silencers were crushed using a road roller inside the Commissionerate premises.
Police Commissioner Goush Alam conducted a surprise inspection of the traffic police station and reviewed enforcement against vehicles fitted with illegal high-decibel exhausts. He said several youth in the city had been modifying their vehicles, causing excessive noise and disturbing residents.
Following focused checks, 243 such vehicles were identified and their modified silencers removed. The seized parts were publicly destroyed as a deterrent measure.
The Commissioner also said that from Friday, police were fully integrating surveillance technology to monitor traffic violations. CCTV cameras under the Smart City project would be used to track offences such as signal jumping, driving without seatbelts, wrong-side driving, use of mobile phones while driving, and triple riding.
Digital challans will be issued to violators based on camera footage. Goush Alam also directed officers to seize vehicles of drunk drivers and produce them in court, ensuring strict legal action.
He urged officials to intensify awareness campaigns on traffic rules across the city.
Traffic ACP B. Yadagiri Swamy, CIs Karim Ullakhan and Ramesh were among those present during the silencer disposal drive.
