DMK MP Kanimozhi backs Telangana’s BC reservation push at Jantar Mantar

Hyderabad: DMK MP Kanimozhi extended strong support to Telangana’s demand for 42% Backward Class (BC) reservations, joining the Congress-led protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media at the protest site, Kanimozhi urged the Centre to immediately amend the cap on reservations. She said historically marginalised communities continued to suffer systemic injustice and emphasized that the constitutional framework must evolve to correct it.

Kanimozhi BC reservations stance echoes Tamil Nadu’s 69% quota model

Highlighting Tamil Nadu’s existing model, Kanimozhi noted that the state had successfully implemented 69% reservations. She said the demand to expand quota limits dated back to the Periyar movement, and Tamil Nadu remained the only state that had fought and secured an exception.

The DMK leader declared full support for Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s efforts to implement 42% BC reservations. “We back his efforts at all levels—within the state and in Parliament,” she said.

She assured that DMK would stand with Telangana MPs in their fight for BC rights in Parliament. Kanimozhi’s statement marks rare southern solidarity between two regional parties on a major constitutional demand.
