Karnan said each polling station will be on the ground floor. Moreover, ramps and wheelchairs will help persons with disabilities (PwDs) move safely and freely.
In addition, the Election Department will arrange special vehicles and extra wheelchairs for voters who need help. PwD voters can also pre-book assistance through the ECINET “Divyang (Saksham)” module. This service provides transport from home to the booth and back.
Furthermore, older people and PwD voters will receive priority at polling stations. These measures will help them cast their votes quickly and comfortably.
For visually impaired voters, the department will provide Braille voter slips, dummy ballot sheets, and Braille-enabled EVMs. Under Rule 49N of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, they may also bring a companion of their choice inside the booth.
Finally, Karnan said the Election Department remains committed to inclusive voting. Therefore, he urged every citizen to participate freely, safely, and with dignity.
