Police arrested two accused in Crime No.28/2026 under Sections 109 and 309 of BNS and Section 27 of the Arms Act. The accused forcibly confined the victim, assaulted him with a country-made firearm and robbed Rs 6 lakh in cash.
The arrested accused were identified as Furkhan Ahmed, 36, a native of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Mohd Taiyyab Tyagi, 30, a cab driver residing at Shaheen Nagar, Hyderabad, originally from Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh.
Interstate robbery offenders held with firearm and cash
Police seized one country-made pistol with 35 live rounds and two magazines. They also recovered Rs 2,38,000 in cash and two mobile phones from the accused.
Five other accused — Faheem Ahmed, Naushad, Abid, Danish Tyagi and Mohd Matlub remain absconding. All are natives of Uttar Pradesh.
Investigators said Mohd Taiyyab Tyagi came to Hyderabad in February 2024 and worked as a taxi driver through app-based services. During early morning trips, he observed customers depositing large sums at ATMs in Abids, Koti and Nampally.
Due to financial problems and his prior criminal record in Uttar Pradesh, he allegedly planned the robbery. He contacted his uncle Naushad and cousin Danish Tyagi. Subsequently, they involved Abid, Furkhan Ahmed and Faheem Ahmed in the plan.
On January 31, 2026, Taiyyab and Abid conducted reconnaissance near Nampally Railway Station. Meanwhile, Furkhan and Faheem waited inside the SBI ATM at Koti with a firearm. When the victim entered, they threatened him and demanded cash.
During the struggle, Furkhan allegedly fired one round at the floor and another at the victim’s leg. The accused then robbed the cash bag and the victim’s two-wheeler and fled.
Later, they assembled at Shaheen Nagar, Chandrayangutta, where they counted about Rs 6 lakh in front of Mohd Matlub. Thereafter, they dispersed to their native places.
