Hyderabad: The Income Tax Department enabled ITR filing for the financial year 2025-26 and assessment year 2026-27.
The department released Excel utilities for ITR-1 and ITR-4 forms on the e-filing portal.
Officials announced the update on social media platform X on Friday.
Taxpayers can now access both the Excel utility and online filing options for the two forms.
With the release of offline utilities, the ITR filing process for AY 2026-27 officially began.
Taxpayers can fill out forms offline and generate a JSON file for upload through the e-filing portal after verification.
However, non-audit taxpayers generally need to file their income tax returns before July 31.

At present, the department provides seven different ITR forms based on taxpayer category and income type.

The form excludes individuals categorised as not ordinarily resident taxpayers.
Meanwhile, ITR-4, known as Sugam, applies to resident individuals, Hindu Undivided Families and firms other than LLPs.
The annual income limit for ITR-4 is also Rs 50 lakh.

The revised norms include additional reporting requirements related to long-term capital gains and trading transactions.
The updated forms also include disclosure rules for losses from share buybacks.
