Hyderabad: Police busted an illegal ice cream unit in Musheerabad and apprehended a person for manufacturing and selling adulterated and expired products. The illegal ice cream unit operated under the name “Blue Bells Ice Cream.”
Task Force teams from Khairatabad and Secunderabad, along with GHMC food safety officials, conducted a surprise inspection at Bapuji Nagar. Consequently, they detained Pattala Ashok for running the unit without a valid licence.
Illegal ice cream unit used expired ingredients and unsafe practices
Officials found that the unit produced ice cream in multiple flavours, including mango, vanilla, butterscotch, and kulfi variants. Moreover, the operator supplied these products to wholesale and retail markets with misleading quality claims.
During inspection, teams detected the use of expired flavouring agents such as pineapple and custard apple. In addition, they found synthetic food colours used in the preparation process.
Authorities said the premises lacked basic hygiene standards. As a result, improper storage and handling made the products unsafe for consumption.
Teams seized adulterated ice cream, synthetic colours, and expired materials worth around ₹1.75 lakh. Meanwhile, officials also confiscated items used in the manufacturing process.
Police registered a case at Musheerabad Police Station under relevant BNS sections. Subsequently, they handed over the accused and seized material for further investigation.
