Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police on Monday revealed major developments in the iBomma digital piracy case, including the seizure of 21,000 pirated films and ₹3 crore in linked bank accounts.
Ravi ran 65 websites, earned ₹20 crore via piracy and betting
Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said Ravi, the accused, created a complex piracy and cybercrime operation. He uploaded nearly 21,000 movies, including classics like The Godfather and recent blockbusters such as OG. His network allegedly earned him ₹20 crore, with ₹3 crore already seized.
The investigation found that Ravi ran 65 mirror websites and held 101 domain names, frequently switching URLs when portals were shut down. His operations included leaking movies from streaming platforms and theater prints, later shared via Telegram channels.
CBI, ED to take over as case expands to betting, international links
Sajjanar said Ravi also diverted traffic from iBomma to illegal betting apps and distributed APK files that risked user data. Police have dismantled both the iBomma and Bappam platforms and are working to trace earnings across the network.
With indications of foreign links and a user base of nearly 50 lakh, the case will be referred to the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate. The police plan to seek further custody of Ravi for deeper interrogation.
Commissioner Sajjanar warned that digital piracy often overlaps with larger criminal ecosystems. He also cautioned that those mocking law enforcement through memes related to this case would face legal action.
