Hyderabad: Residents of Kaukuru in Alwal mandal, Medchal–Malkajgiri district, expressed relief and appreciation after authorities removed a major flood threat by restoring a blocked stormwater canal linking Kaukuru Kunta and Nagireddy Kunta.
Acting on a public grievance, HYDRAA officials inspected the site and discovered a wall illegally constructed across the interlinking canal. The obstruction had disrupted the natural stormwater flow, endangering nearby homes and apartment complexes such as Fortune Towers.
Following field verification, HYDRAA teams swiftly demolished the barrier and rehabilitated a 25-metre stretch of the canal. This restoration allowed water from Kaukuru Kunta and surrounding areas to flow freely into Nagireddy Kunta.
Residents noted that despite recent rains, there was no waterlogging. Several homes in Kaukuru village and the Fortune Towers area were spared from potential inundation.
Locals displayed placards reading “HYDRAA Long Live” in support of the agency’s intervention. They also raised slogans in favour of the government and HYDRA, crediting the prompt action for averting disaster.
