Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday declared that Hyderabad is poised to lead the national quantum economy, backed by strong infrastructure and a digitally skilled workforce.
He was speaking at the launch of NITI Aayog’s Quantum Roadmap and the Telangana Quantum Strategy (TQS), held at IIIT Gachibowli.
Vikramarka said Telangana will become the first Indian state with a dedicated quantum strategy, aligned with both the central roadmap and the state’s long-term development vision, “Telangana Rising 2047”, which targets a $3 trillion economy by mid-century.

“Quantum will reshape all sectors more rapidly and profoundly than any other technology. Any nation aspiring to a powerful future must invest in a quantum strategy,” he said.
The TQS outlines Telangana’s goals in quantum research, education, skills development, infrastructure, and cybersecurity, in alignment with the National Mission on Quantum Technologies and Applications.
With the rollout of TQS, Vikramarka said Telangana is signalling its intent to build the country’s most advanced ecosystem for quantum innovation.
The government has also committed to a detailed implementation roadmap, aimed at creating strong collaborations between industry and academia.
“Quantum technology will drive economic growth and innovation in Telangana and across India. It will be key to attracting global investments and scaling up startups,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

₹1,000 crore fund announced for quantum startups
He announced a ₹1,000 crore Young India Startup Fund, which will prioritize startups working in quantum technologies.
He also emphasised the state’s ambition to build a full-spectrum quantum value chain, from foundational research to commercial deployment.
“Quantum is central not only to economic growth, but also to advancements in cybersecurity, communications, and computing,” Vikramarka said.
He added that Telangana’s scientific strengths, policy foresight, and execution capacity will enable academia, startups, industry, and the government to function as integrated partners in the emerging quantum ecosystem.
Among those present at the event were Minister D. Sridhar Babu, NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, members V.K. Saraswat and Debjani Ghosh, Special Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar, and Deputy CM’s Special Secretary Krishna Bhaskar. Representatives from IIIT-Hyderabad, IIT-Hyderabad, CR Rao Institute, and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research also attended.
