Hyderabad Police warn against IPL betting, strict action planned

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar warned the public against IPL betting and urged people to treat cricket only as a sport. The IPL betting advisory highlighted growing risks linked to online and offline gambling activities.

He said the government had earlier banned several betting apps. However, betting has now shifted to platforms such as Telegram, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

Sajjanar said police will take strict action against social media influencers promoting betting apps. Moreover, he warned that such promotions endanger public safety for monetary gain.

He said police teams are closely monitoring offline betting activities. In addition, authorities are tracking operations conducted in farmhouses and other secret locations.

The Commissioner said betting leads to financial losses and family distress. Therefore, he urged citizens not to risk their future by engaging in such activities.

He asked the public to report any betting-related activity immediately. Meanwhile, police have provided helpline numbers to ensure quick response.

Authorities urged citizens to dial 100 or contact 94906 16555 on WhatsApp to report illegal betting.
