Hyderabad: Police uncovered a counterfeit currency racket when Mehdipatnam Police and the Commissioner’s Task Force, South West Zone, raided Eidgah Grounds at First Lancer on 12 November 2025. The teams arrested eight men who printed and circulated fake Indian currency. Officers seized ₹4.75 lakh in forged ₹500 notes, a Maruti Suzuki Fronx, three two-wheelers, and nine mobile phones.
Main accused ran counterfeit currency racket from his residence
Police identified Kasthuri Ramesh Babu, a 35-year-old car mechanic from Tandur, as the main organiser of the counterfeit currency racket. Ramesh produced fake notes at his home using a scanner, Photoshop software, and JK bond paper. He used green gift paper to mimic a security thread and fixed it with adhesive. He then dried each note with a heat gun. Officers said he had faced similar arrests earlier.
Ramesh promoted the notes on Instagram and supplied them to associates at ratios from 1:4 to 1:2. His contacts helped him push the fake notes into circulation.
Associates distributed forged notes across Hyderabad
Police said Abdul Waheed, Mohd Abdul Khader, Mohd Sohail, Mohd Fahad, Shaik Imran, Omer Khan, and Syed Altamash Ahmed distributed the notes under Ramesh’s direction. Officers arrested all eight and produced them before the court.
Search teams later reached Ramesh’s home again and recovered more counterfeiting materials. Police continued the inquiry to locate any remaining links.
