Hyderabad Metro fare hike under consideration as losses cross ₹6,500 crore

HYDERABAD: L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (L&TMRHL) is actively considering a Hyderabad Metro fare hike, though no official increase has been announced yet. The proposed revision comes in the wake of financial losses exceeding ₹6,500 crore since the metro began operations in 2017.

The current fare structure, unchanged since inception, ranges from ₹10 for travel up to 2 km to ₹60 for journeys over 26 km. Any fare hike will require the approval of the Fare Fixation Committee and the Telangana state government.

To manage losses without immediately burdening commuters, L&TMRHL introduced operational changes from 1 April 2025. Weekday services now run until 11:45 PM, and Sunday services start earlier to meet weekend demand.

Additionally, the operator has withdrawn certain fare concessions, including the ₹59 Holiday Saver Card and a 10% peak-hour discount.

While the Hyderabad Metro fare hike remains under consideration, L&TMRHL said its priority is to maintain a balance between financial sustainability and commuter affordability.

Commuters are advised to stay updated through official channels for any announcements on fare revisions.
