Centre clears Hyderabad to host 85th Indian Road Congress in 2026

Hyderabad: The Centre has approved Hyderabad to host the 85th Indian Road Congress (IRC) in 2026, giving Telangana a major opportunity to showcase its infrastructure leadership at the national level.

The announcement came during the 84th IRC session in Bhubaneswar. Officials said the decision highlights Telangana’s increasing influence in road and transport development.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had directed the Roads and Buildings Department to pursue the opportunity. Acting on these instructions, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy formally wrote to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, proposing Hyderabad as the host city. The Centre accepted the proposal and confirmed the event.

Hyderabad to take centre stage in road planning

Minister Komatireddy expressed gratitude to Nitin Gadkari and the Union government for choosing Hyderabad. He noted that the IRC will bring together top engineers, planners, and infrastructure experts from across India. This, he said, will directly support Telangana’s development goals.

“The IRC will open up fresh opportunities for technical collaboration and innovation,” he said. He also commended ENC Mohan Naik and senior R&B officials for their coordination in securing the session.

According to the Minister, the event will boost Telangana’s visibility in national road policy and accelerate key projects through exposure to cutting-edge practices.
