Hyderabad: Telangana achieved another milestone in promoting eco-friendly mobility. Hyderabad won the City with Best Green Transport Initiative award for its strong progress in sustainable urban transport and EV promotion.
The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs selected Hyderabad for the honour under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (TGREDCO) received recognition for completing the e-mobility and EV charging infrastructure project efficiently. Moreover, it demonstrated consistent leadership in clean mobility.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will present the award to TGREDCO Managing Director V. Anil during a ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday. Meanwhile, TGREDCO continues to expand its statewide charging network.
In coordination with GHMC, HMDA, TSRTC and DISCOMs, TGREDCO strengthened public EV infrastructure and ensured smoother adoption across Telangana. As a result, Hyderabad became a national model for clean transport.

Hyderabad green transport initiative gains pace
Thanks to TGREDCO’s active efforts, EV charging use grew by 329% in the past nine months. Furthermore, nearly 15% of urban vehicles shifted to electric or non-motorised transport. The agency aims to install 6,000 charging stations by 2030 and 12,000 by 2035.
These targets align with the Telangana EV and Energy Storage Policy (2020–2030) and the Clean Energy Policy (2025). In addition, both policies promote cleaner technologies and lower emissions across sectors.
Telangana leads India in clean energy transport
TGREDCO Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director V. Anil said the award showed the government’s firm commitment to green energy. She thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and TGREDCO Chairman Dr A. Sharath for their continued support.
Anil added that TGREDCO would, therefore, intensify its work to make Telangana a front-runner in clean energy transport nationwide. Moreover, she said the corporation’s upcoming initiatives would drive sustainable mobility further.
TGREDCO’s key achievements across Telangana
TGREDCO has built more than 1,000 EV charging stations in the state, including 150 established directly by the corporation. In addition, it executed a ₹35-crore project funded through NCAP without adding pressure on the state exchequer.
Each month, this initiative cuts 552 tonnes of carbon emissions and 5.57 kilograms of PM2.5 pollutants. Around 37 charge-point operators and 16,000 users have registered on the TGEV app. Furthermore, the government introduced a special EV tariff (LT-IX) to make charging more affordable.
The project also created new jobs in technical support and maintenance, thereby boosting employment and supporting the local green economy.
