HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has filed a petition in the High Court over the alleged circulation of fake videos related to the levelling of 400 acres of land in Kancha Kanch Gachibowli, accusing certain groups of using artificial intelligence to spread misinformation.
Supreme Court advocate Maneka Guruswamy submitted the petition on behalf of the state, drawing the court’s attention to manipulated video and audio clips that falsely depicted environmental damage and public unrest.
AI Used to Create Misleading Wildlife Videos
According to the petition, Gachibowli land fake videos were fabricated to show deer and peacocks fleeing in fear at the sight of bulldozers during land levelling activity. The government argued that such content was designed to provoke emotional outrage and mislead the public.
The petition urged the court to issue orders for strict action against those responsible for producing and distributing the fake content. The High Court has scheduled the hearing for April 24.
FIR Against BRS IT Cell Members
In a related development, the Gachibowli police have already registered a case against members of the BRS party’s IT Cell. The complaint, filed by an individual named Bagannagari Arun Kumar, alleged that fake videos concerning the Gachibowli land were posted on social media platforms to mislead students of the University of Hyderabad (HCU) and incite unrest.
As a result, FIRs were lodged against Konnatham Dilip and Krishank, both reportedly in charge of the BRS IT Cell. The police are investigating their role in the dissemination of the doctored content.
