High Court backs Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla lake renovation in Old City

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has cleared the inauguration and ongoing work at Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake in Hyderabad’s Old City. The order allows HYDRAA to continue the renovation and beautification of the historic lake.

Justice Vijaya Sen Reddy dismissed pleas seeking to halt the project. He said almost 90 per cent of the lake restoration was complete, and stopping work now would harm public interest.

Petitioners had claimed that parts of their land lay within the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL). The judge advised affected owners to claim compensation through Transferable Development Rights (TDR) instead of blocking the work.

Justice Reddy praised HYDRAA for its efforts to restore and maintain city lakes. He noted that such initiatives help protect Hyderabad’s natural assets and improve the urban environment.
